Roger Stone is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ. He has authored numerous other successful titles, including The Making of the President 2016, Jeb! and the Bush Crime Family, The Clinton's War on Women, Nixon's Secrets, The Benghazi Report, and Tricky Dick. He is a legendary political operative who served as a senior campaign aide to Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Senator Bob Dole, and is a close friend and adviser to President Donald Trump. Stone would parlay being the youngest staff member of the Committee to Re-Elect the President in 1972 into being a conduit of secret memos from Ex-President Nixon to President Ronald Reagan throughout the 80s. A veteran of eight national presidential campaigns, Stone would spend hours talking politics with Nixon as confidant and adviser in his post-presidential years. Pure junk. Nuff said.
Having served in the same Marine Air Control Squadron (though a couple of years later) and knowing several people who actually served with Lee Harvey Oswald at Santa Ana, CA and Atsugi, Japan and then actually being in that unit on Nov. 22, 1963, I have a keen interest in all the books written on the subject. Though much of the material in this one has been previously written, Roger Stone ties up many loose ends and does a much better job of describing just how ruthless, vulgar and disgustingly power hungry LBJ actually was. I was convinced of the involvement of mob boss Carlos Marcello after reading Mafia Kingfish but this book really convinced me that power crazed LBJ was the key to not only the JFK hit but RFK as well. My knowledge, though second hand, of Oswald and his rather mediocre marksmanship in the Marine Corps convinced me early on that he could not have pulled off what the Warren Commission would have you believe and Stone makes a solid case to reinforce what I have believed from day one. One final thought: Ask yourself why (after 50 years) the government still refuses to release all of the applicable documents. Could it be because George H. W. Bush is still alive? I would like to have a response from Mr. Stone if he reads the reviews of his work. Great book! I highly recommend it for anyone interested in this subject.
This very interesting book by a long-time political insider ties together a wide variety of interlocking events, connections, motives, and personality traits that point to LBJ’s role in JFK’s assassination --- as well as LBJ’s subsequent management and manipulation of the Warren Commission’s findings. What’s even more distressing, however, than LBJ’s unsurprising role, is the complicity of most of the government’s alphabet agencies, quite a few politicians, labor unions and organized crime in carrying off the assassination and ensuring the cover-up. All of which points to a shadow government many of us suspect but don’t want to believe, and certainly didn’t think we were electing. For LBJ it was all about power and his ability to exercise it without interference.Although many of us thought LBJ was behind the assassination from the very beginning, Stone’s presentation of the wide involvement is revealing --- if true. But remember, just because it’s a conspiracy theory doesn’t mean it wasn’t an actual conspiracy. Especially when the theory is too massive to ignore.
I've read two substantive books on this subject and I believe that any thinking, intelligent person who reads this book AND "LBJ: The Mastermind of the JFK Assassination" cannot possibly come to any other conclusion but that LBJ was a murderer. It is a story by turns sickening, frightening, horrifying and sad. What I DON'T understand is why, WHY with all the evidence out there, is he still being lauded as a good president? Why hasn't this been bigger news? He was not for civil rights. That was nothing but a sham. He KILLED people! He stole, cheated and had a direct hand in the murder of Kennedy. Not to mention he was a philanderer, a sexual obsessive and a man who wanted to be president so badly he killed to have it. Nixon is quoted as saying (paraphrasing) "LBJ and I both wanted the presidency. The difference was, I wouldn't kill for it."My mother (who always said LBJ was responsible) was RIGHT.
I was a bit surprised when the book arrived and it was over 400 pages long. I didn't know if I was that interested in LBJ or not, But some 400 pages later I was sorry the book ended. Just plain excellent with good writing, with an insider's bit of gossip, and what would be a trial lawyer's prosecution including motive, means, and opportunity.I'm not a conspiracy theorist though I have become an historical revisionist, e.g. Germany was not responsible for the start of The Great War, but Stone leaves no doubt in my mind that 1) Johnson was a gross and disgusting man, 2)he was probably crazy, and 3) he was involved in killing Kennedy. Yes, he had plenty of help with malcontents from the CIA, and from Hoover who was facing forced retirement, from his crooked Texas attorneys, and the mob. Stone very well documents the story of how involved mob characters were in government. The latter being a real shocker.The book is well documented and easy; no, make that fun, to read. I highly recommend it.Oh by the way there was a conspiracy to create the Federal Reserve Bank, that's as far as I'm willing to go with the conspiracy theory stuff.By the way guess what happened to the guy who shot from the grassy knoll. That's right he did have something in common with the patsy Oswald.
Convincing, well supported facts. The horror slowly sinks in as you realize the kind of world we live in and the kind of men who rule us. The book could not be more clear, fair, and fact-based. I was young when Kennedy became president and I feared him being Catholic--something Stone mentions as a hammering point for the other side. The more I read about JFK, the more I see him, for all his faults, as a good man who was good for America. Even if he was a Democrat.
