I found this to be a good introduction to using the runes for divination. It is called a practical guide to the runes and there is not much information about the history of the runes or Norse mythology except that mentioned in the Introduction. The next section discussion making a set of runes, a rune pouch, and rune cloth. The next chapter discusses the runes in divination, where each rune's meaning, both bright-stave (upright) and merk-stave (reverse) is given. One thing the author did was she used the Norse names for many of the runes, but for others, the Anglo-Saxon names. In my opinion, she should have been consistent and used either Norse or Anglo-Saxon, but not both. The controversial blank rune (Wyrd) is discussed first, with the others in the Elder Futhark described in their usual order. The next chapter concerns principals of divination and rune layouts. She describes one-, three-, five-, and seven-rune layouts. I tried out the seven-rune layout concerning an issue I needed guidance about, and I found the result to be spot-on! I couldn't have picked a more insightful runecast! The later chapters discuss runes in magick, making talismans using runescripts and bindrunes, and ritual carving and consecration. Following that are seven appendices and a suggested reading list.This is my go-to rune book and I suggest giving it a read. It may become yours, too!
I heard about this book from a YouTube channel that I watch. I have gotten into Runes as of late & I needed a simple guide to help me out. This is a great book for beginners, but also a great reference for the experienced.
It's the best book that I ever seen about runes.This book not only shows a picture of individual runes,the name,and in-depth definition of them,it talks about other things in regards to runes as well.This book shows you how to make runes in various ways such as with wood or stones,and use acrylic paint or markers to put the symbols on,how to make a rune cloth,a pouch for runes, and rune jewelry.If you would like to learn how to made runes as,well as other information in regards to runes.This is the rune book to get.
This is a great starting place for anyone who wants to get to know the Runes. As a long time rune user, I found this to be very consistent with rune lore and how to cast the runes as well as make your own. Everything you need to get yourself started, besides a set of runes, is in this book. The only thing I wish it taught was how to read between the lines and truly use your sixth sense to gain the deeper more esoteric side of the runic symbols, because only then, will the runes unlock themselves to you.
I searched for information regarding Runes that we NOT other people's personal opinions of reading Runes and this book keeps to the ancient understanding of Runes.
I bought the kindle version and I couldn't even started. It seems like they photocopied the pages. The pictures of the Runes show the letters printed on the page in the back. I didn't pay much for the book, ($6 plus) but I expected good quality. I returned the book because I was not going to read it. About the content... I don't know. I returned it immediately.
I find that this book is a really good read when you want more information..but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as the only book you should have, if you could only have one. While it's a good introduction, I feel that there could have been a bit more content and in depth analysis of the rune meanings.
This book breaks everything down and exceeded my expectations. Very pleased!
