They set the tone with "makeunders," before-and-after color photos of young people in which a very limited amount of makeup has been applied to highlight their naturalness, and with advice that begins in bold, hot-pink letters: "YOU SHOULD STAND OUT, NOT YOUR MAKEUP." The advice is broken down into lists and bullets and accompanied by diagrams and photos. The authors stress the importance of diet and exercise. There are chapters for African Americans, Latin Americans, Asian Americans, and "Global Beauties." Later chapters give more recommendations for teens who are athletes and those hoping to be models. An index of resources provides ideas on where to buy beauty products, advice on going to a dermatologist, and general thoughts on weight loss. Brown's own line of beauty products are not mentioned in the body of the book, but merely listed as a Web site in the index. The book is a MUST HAVE for anyone who loves makeup. The book is #timeless and what I love is that it shows the makeup style in the 90's which was characterized by natural skin, pastels, and glossy lips. It also has pics and makes mention of all types of skin color and features, so I believe this book will teach girls to embrace their roots. The book will help teens to understand the importance of natural beauty at their age because nowadays the trend of heavy makeup is shading the natural beauty of ladies in general. Don't doubt in buying this masterpiece.
Gave this to my 16 year old daughter for Christmas, along with a make up case full of trial make up. She read through the entire book and found it very helpful. She has now started wearing make up and does so very tastefully ala Bobbi Brown!
I purchased this book for my niece, who's growing up into that stage of wearing makeup. She seems to really like the book, so I'm very happy I chose it. The book gives advice on makeup, techniques and teenage life in general. I also like the book because it covered things important to teens...the how to wear a certain style for school, out with friends, etc. Good book.
Ok so I'm in 10th grade and i really want to become a professional makeup artist.I just started using makeup 6 months ago but fell in love with it.I have read quite a few makeup books, and have gotten the basic technique down and learned enough where I think I'm past the beginners stage.With me being in my middle teens I wanted to find a good book that had pictures of different looks that where wearable for every day life.I found this book on the internet and loved the reviews so much i went ahead and bought it be for checking it out first to see if I really wanted it.I had not read any of Bobbi Browns books at that time so i didn't know what to expect.After ready the first few pages, I couldn't put it down!It was really well written and i differently had a higher self-esteem after reading it!A awesome book for all teenagers to read, even if your in you're 20 or 30 I think you could take something away from this book! ;)~Have a great day!
I gave this book to my granddaughter in California and she was delighted toreceive it. She later called me to thank me and she says she loves it!
This book doesn't just cover make up, but self image, body image issues, etc. Way more in depth about beauty than I though, with great real life examples ... for instance, a girl who had a few scars from a car accident, the authors own stories, etc. Written in a very warm voice, like advice from a "Cool Aunt". I highly recommend!
This is definitely for younger girls with no makeup experience. Nice book.
My 15 year old loved the book. She is now more into nailing down what exactly she needs, than just drooling over everything on the beauty section.
