Wow, was this an eye-opener. This is a must read book for anyone who likes to consider themselves an informed citizen. While I think most people wouldn't be surprised that there is rampant bias in the media, what Sharyl Attkisson shows really lies behind the curtain is truly disgusting. Our most often used media outlets are all compromised. Bought out by corporate sponsors to prevent foul play from being reported. In bed with government officials and your elected leaders to prevent any story being told that paints them in a negative light. Your tax dollars go straight to funding bureaucratic gatekeepers to prevent the truth from ever being revealed. And much, much worse. You'll never read Wikipedia, watch the news, or look at a government official the same way again.
As an insider, Sharyl Attkisson reveals with plenty of details how corrupt and dishonest the mainstream media really is -- especially CBS. She also exposes the gangster tactics used by the Obama administration -- namely Jay Carney and Josh Earnest -- to thwart any critical reportage of Obama. You will see how CBS was so "in the tank" for Obama that they did everything in their power to suppress all negative stories just before the 2012 election to guarantee Obama's reelection. The way Attkisson tells it, it's doubtful that Obama would have been reelected if CBS's coverage was honest. The same can be said for the rest of mainstream media. There is one thing I wish she would have discussed but didn't: With the stonewalling and lying to the press exhibited by the Press Secretary (either Carney or Earnest), why do the correspondents still show them so much respect? When Earnest stands before them and tells obvious lies, why don't they laugh him off the stage or, better yet, why don't they call him a liar to his face and demand he start telling the truth. I wish she would have explained this unearned respect.

If you want to have some insight into the current state of our nation...the lies and cover-ups by too many in our government, and the often slanting of news and collusion of the media, and the pervasive corporate influence and money influencing both...then this book will give you a great start.Despite what Attkisson's detractors might say...she is an award winning journalist with high standards for delivering hard-hitting, well documented and researched news. And she isn't liked by a lot of folks in the Press and Washington for it who try to label her as a partisan nut job.In one area her observations have already been clearly confirmed for me. While watching a local newscast today the talking heads cheerfully reported about a viral video dog sitting on a lawn-mower, a fast-food chain's expanded breakfast menu...and a long sympathetic report about protesters who are being injured at Trump rallies.Reading Attkisson's book will clear away any fog you might have about this kind of "news".Anyway, I took a chance on this book because I'd not heard anything about it...but found it very interesting and informative.
BAM! Sharyl Attkisson does it again, telling the truth about how government and media work against the public good, and taking a stand to tell it like it is, even at the risk of her own life. From monitored computers to tapped telephones to having to hire security guards for protection, Attkisson presents a no-holds-barred account of her life as a television reporter and her quest to tell the truth about the news even if it means having to go out on her own to do it. In this day and age of lies, deception, intimidation and corruption at all levels, inside and out of mainstream news's walls, Attikisson is a shining light of hope. Some people call her a whistleblower others say she's simply got guts. But me, I say she's got a conscience, and thank god she's determined to follow that conscience. This was a great book that I bought simply to have the sheer joy of reading it. Nobody paid to write this, and I did NOT get it in exchange for a review of any sort. I have such great respect her her, and I loved reading this book, even though it did leave me angry and upset at many points doing my reading.
