He put a gun in my back and I thought for a moment my wife and I would be shot inside this downtown Las Vegas casino. Was this huge brute of a man a criminal trying to steal money from me? No, he was a security guard who wanted me out of his casino! The dealer wasn't too friendly either --- he threw the cards into my face! This casino manager followed me on the Las Vegas Strip because I had won money at his casino and he didn't like it. What did he intend to do; beat me up?  I did a television show at an Indian casino but I had two security guards with me at all times - even when I was sleeping they stayed outside the door. One of the guards stayed so close to me during the show that he was on camera. And there's more, much more about how the casinos treat their "unfavorite" customers --- and I name names too. My wife the Beautiful AP and I beat the casinos for a quarter century and (surprise!) the casinos didn't like that. Some took strong measures to stop us too. If you want to know what it was like for a husband/wife team of expert players challenging the casinos for more than two decades then this book is for you. I am A Card Counter by Frank ScobleteThis is not an instructional book on how to count cards, although the appendix does contain some card counting basics.This is Mr. Scoblete's account of his journey from a casino gambling neophyte to a skilled card counter.Along the way he meets some of the most well known gamblers of all time. The names are instantly recognizable to anyone that has an interest in gambling. He also is lucky enough to be mentored by relatively unknown card counting expert that was working as a clerk in a gambling book store.Written in Mr. Scoblete's light and entertaining style the book makes the reader feel like they are sitting at the blackjack table with him.He describes a point in his life when he and his wife had to fly to Vegas several times a year to make money to pay tuition bills. That is really pressure.Mr Scoblete also writes about the people he encountered in his gambling career from eccentric players to Casino employees that watch him as though the money in the rack belonged to them.If you have ever tried counting cards or thought about it the accounts of his banning will be of particular interest to you.If you have an interest in casino gambling you will really enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.
This book is a fast one, is so we'll written, with a lot of funny moments and I love the relationship between Frank and the beautiful AP. The blackjack and craps adventures make you want to learn more about advantage players. Congratulations.
I've read other books by Frank Scoblete and I can't wait to start reading this one. I can't review it yet but I've read Franks other books and very much enjoyed them all. He is a great story teller as well as a great AP! I'm sure I'll be very glad I purchased this book!
I enjoyed reading Frank Scoblete's book I was intrigued how Frank told his life story of how card counting (and meeting his new wife) changed his life for the better and allowed him to work himself into financial success due to smart gambling and casinos as a source for his books.Frank had often alluded to his life history but this book spells it out. I liked going along with the ride and following his stories. Frankly, most BJ books are pretty fungible as there is only so much one can write about putting money in when the card count is high. But Frank has a voice and way of telling stories that is interesting. After all I gamble for amusement and similarly I like to read about gambling for amusement. I particularly like his detailed discussion of the BJ game at the Maxim casino in the early 1990's - a game I myself stumbled into and was confused when the dealer simply reshuffled the single deck when the cards ran out in the middle of the hand. Sadly I was such a BJ novice that I did not appreciate the opportunity I faced.I did find some shortcomings. The book is pretty thin compared to many books and the font is fairly large, so there is less text (or stories) as I would have liked. Also he does not sufficiently stress that what he got away with in the past probably won't work in the present.Nevertheless, it was a nice read and I enjoyed the book.
it was a fun read. he is cocky and very self-loving, but then that is his interesting character!
An excellent read if you are interested in learning to count cards.
